Touch Across the Void
Touch Across the Void explores the tension between absence and presence, and employs repeated imprints of a human face to construct a composition defined by absence. The work is a meditation on the negative space—the palimpsests of presence suggest someone or something exists even when not physically visible. Faces are deliberately abstracted, preventing direct recognition, yet their subliminal suggestion evokes an acute awareness of presence, creating an intense, introspective experience for the viewer.
The piece seeks to engage the figural and the liminal indirectly, encouraging a phenomenological encounter: a lived, human response that arises from perception itself rather than through social or cultural framing. The use of a bold, vivid colour introduces a complementary frisson, amplifying the work’s psychological and sensory impact.
