Appendix A / Sylvan Hill Residence

The approach to the house is via a ½ mile road that winds its way up a hill. This terminates in a transitional courtyard. A trellis covered path leads from this courtyard to the main entrance. The sequence of entrance is deliberate. The front door is not immediately visible upon approaching the house, but the entry passage is clear. This entry passages rises gently, and the space becomes more compressed both vertically and horizontally as one approaches the main door. As one nears the main door, a view through the house is given onto the main view of a small ravine. The intention is that this sequence defines the man-made spaces, but integrates them into the natural environment.
