Description
|
A school and community centre containing a sixth form college, primary school, special needs school, library, and faith centre.

Idea
|
The
space created between and around the buildings is as important as the
spaces within the buildings themselves. The principal idea an
urban square around which the buildings are grouped. This urban
square has a civic presence and all of the different site uses can be
accessed here (although the primary and special needs schools require
additional pedestrian entrances). Car parking, the downfall of
many an urban project, is kept to one side of the urban square.
The sketches show an evolution of the design and particularly how the
external spaces evolved and reflects the economic tensions inherent in
a design build approach when the design is procured in a competitive
environment.
